Volltext/Document

The establishment of two new multilateral development banks – the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the New Development Bank (NDB) – signifies for the architecture of the international financial institutions a transfer of power to the emerging economies. In view of the huge financing requirements for infrastructure in developing countries and emerging economies, these banks take on an important role. While China and the other BRICS states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) have a leading role in the new financial institutions, these countries are underrepresented in the already existing multilateral financial institutions.
