The Fourth Partner Conference for the research and sending partner institutions of the programme Managing Global Governance (MGG) took place from 18 to 20 April 2012, organized by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in close cooperation with the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). After a welcome dinner on 17 April the participants undertook a critical review of the MGG programme and develop content-related as well as tentative strategic new components of the programme.

On 19 April the focus was on the topic of global partnerships for effective development cooperation. Numerous internationally acknowledged actors participated. Issues in the context of post-Busan were dealt with as well as the role South-South and triangular cooperation could play in the field. However, the key angle was the attitude of the respective partners towards their own and new institutional developments for the implementation of strategic development goals.

From DIE, the following key speakers were involved in the conference: Dirk Messner, Imme Scholz, Thomas Fues, Stephan Klingebiel, Guido Ashoff, Jörn Grävingholt, Christine Hackenesch and Heiner Janus.

The third conference day focused on the forum of future cooperation. There were six parallel running open workshops where partners from the South as well as partners from German and European institutions presented their ideas and plans for common projects.

The MGG partner conference is an important event for DIE, in order to deepen and to further explore the existing research partner relations with relevant institutions in the respective emerging power countries. Not at least this event created a solid basis for a successful continuation of the MGG programme beyond 2013.
