MGG Conference on Voluntary Sustainability Standards - Impulse and Exchange for VSS National Platforms
Jakarta, 28.11.2018 until 29.11.2018
German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN)
Addressing global challenges by joint knowledge production is at the core of the dialogue, research and training programme Managing Global Governance (MGG). The programme is implemented by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) with partners from the emerging economies Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa. Researchers and experts from the public sector, civil society and the private sector work on joint projects to shed new light on current global challenges particularly in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to explore innovative problem-solving approaches at the national, regional and international level.
Started in 2015 as a research collaboration of alumni of the MGG Academy, the MGG project on voluntary sustainability standards (VSS) for certain products and services has played a catalysing role in transnational cooperation. The project set in motion the establishment of national platforms for voluntary sustainability standards in China, Brazil and India in order to foster better understanding and adaption of VSS to domestic conditions. Against this background, the MGG Conference in Jakarta will draw on the findings from the MGG work on sustainability standards to promote the launch of a national platform for voluntary sustainability standards in Indonesia. The event will provide a platform for exchange among more than 70 experts from Indonesia, MGG countries and international organisations such as the ISO, ISEAL Alliance and UNFSS, whose works have addressed the benefits and challenges of establishing and implementing voluntary sustainability standards.
The event is jointly organised with the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN).
MGG is implemented on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
