The German Development Institute (DIE) is one of the leading international development policy think tanks. Through excellent research, policy advise and training, it contributes to finding answers to global questions about the future.

 

The DIE's research programme Inter- and Transnational Cooperation is looking to recruit a researcher for our BMZ African-German Leadership Academy as soon as possible, initially for a fixed term until 31.12.2021 (with the prospect of extension).

The African Leadership Academy is a new international, English-language training and dialogue format to be developed. Its components include digital formats and a three months face-to-face interaction in both Bonn and Berlin. It is aimed at emerging leaders from African countries that are BMZ reform partners. The programme is the basis for broad, research-based collaboration with African countries on supporting skills and innovation for sustainable development, based on the Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda. At DIE. the Leadership Academy is embedded in a research programme that works on issues of global knowledge cooperation. It will explore potential for cooperation and synergies with other training programmes at DIE, in particular the Managing Global Governance (MGG) and DIE's postgraduate programme.

 

The researcher is responsible for the following tasks, among others:

  • Jointly with a new team at DIE, the researcher contributes to developing and implementing an attractive, peer learning-based programme for young professionals from African countries, i.e. s/he will
  • conceptualise and implement modules in an interactive course, in presence and digital formats;
  • select of and support participants in close coordination with and partly under the guidance of other academic and non-academic staff in the DIE team;
  • conduct academic research on questions related to transnational cooperation, specifically the establishment and functioning of networks, including in African countries.

 

Requirements and qualifications:

  • University degree with excellent grades in political science, social science, economics or related disciplines,
  • Fluency in English; good command of German and/or French is an asset,
  • Dedication to engage in research and transdisciplinary exchanges on a topic within the sustainability and development policy discussions as described in the Agenda 2063 and Agenda 2030,
  • Experiences with and in African countries,
  • Interest in and affinity to digital forms of cooperation,
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate (Tropentauglichkeit)
  • Commitment to joint learning and dedication to working in a professionally and culturally diverse team.
