Job: Researcher (f/m/diverse) on financial systems in Africa

Researcher (m/f/diverse)

Full time 100% (39 hours/week)

Salary from € 55.000 p.a. up to € 80.000 p.a.

(German public sector tariff, up to TVöD Bund 14 depending on qualifications)

starting as soon as possible and limited until 31 December 2022, extension expected until 31 December 2023.

 

As a member of an interdisciplinary team exploring the determinants and effects of social cohesion in Africa, the candidate will investigate the conditions for the development and deepening of financial markets in African countries and how they can better contribute to inclusive economic development. In addition, the candidate will assess how financial markets could contribute to cushioning the economic and social effects of the COVID-19 crisis. Applicants are to conduct research, publish, and advise policymakers on the practical implementation of research findings. He/she contributes to the overarching goals of the research project “Social cohesion in Africa”.

 

Qualifications and requirements:

  • Master, or preferably PhD, with excellent grades in social sciences, preferably economics
  • Proven knowledge and experience in research in the following fields: financial systems development and international finance including international financial markets
  • Willingness to engage in policy advice; previous experience is an asset
  • Skills in quantitative research methods are an asset
  • Very good written and spoken English skills; knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team and good communication skills
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate („Tropentauglichkeit“)
