Partner country selection is one of the key elements of development policy. Here, approaches of selected OECD member countries during the last years, their principles in development policy making and how their approach is reflected in the formula applied, are analysed.
The inclusion of actors from the private sector is a central challenge in development co-operation. This study investigates how multi-actor partnerships and multi-stakeholder networks can provide a supporting structure in this regard.

The study analyses coordination issues. It argues that cross-sectoral coordination is not the only governance issue to be solved to harmonise land and water-intensive development plans. Key are land tenure changes and the water allocation regime vis-a-vis traditional governance institutions.
This case study examines how Malaysia – a country that has not signed the UN Convention for the Protection of Refugees – continues to host multiple waves of refugees. It examines policy measures and their impact on the protection environment with key recommendations for the enhancement of it.

We conducted a randomized control trial in order to assess the impacts of the Tingathe Economic Empowerment Project in Malawi. We find in particular that poor and labour-constrained households benefited from the project and that the provided training increased the productive use of the lump-sum.

Industrial policy-making in Morocco is became more systemic, values dialogue with private sector and competitiveness. Yet, hurdles remain, regarding monitoring and evaluation, inclusion and implementation. If these weaknesses are addressed industrial policy could contribute to a new social contract.
What role do cultural values play in democracy support? Western donors promote liberal values in recipient countries as part of their governance programmes, but these may clash with local values and attitudes. We explore how (mis)matching values mediate the effectiveness of democracy support.
This paper analyses the engagement of the Visegrad countries in EU-Africa relations, with a key focus on four main issues: the post-Cotonou mandate negotiations, the southern dimension of the European Neighbourhood Policy, the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa and the European Development Fund.
