The adoption of a new climate agreement by the 196 Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Paris in 2015 was hailed around the world as a historic achievement. If the Paris Agreement is implemented  consistently in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, then it will truly mark the beginning of  the end for the fossil fuel era, ushering in a radical  transformation in the global economy and society.
