Through the exchange of research and innovation (R&I) staff and network-wide activities, PRODIGEES (“Promoting Research on Digitalisation in Emerging Powers and Europe towards Sustainable Development”) strengthens long-term research partnerships between Europe and Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa for transnational knowledge sharing on the interconnection of digitalisation and sustainability. By complementaryand comparative research in different world regions, PRODIGEES aims to generate a better understanding on the conditions of how positive effects of digitalisation can be achieved (e.g. economic growth, improved government services, transparency, penetration of financial services), while at the same time potential negative effects are mitigated (e.g. automation-related labour displacement, increased inequalities particularly between urban and rural areas, power asymmetries between states and digital platforms, questions of cybersecurity, privacy concerns). On this basis, PRODIGEES engages in innovative transnational training and a multi-stakeholder dialogue with the aim to shape technological trajectories at an early stage of development and identify and promote policy paths that are more likely to maximise benefits for the achievement of the SDGs and the European Green Deal. PRODIGEES takes place from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2023.
