The Agenda 2030 and the international orientation of research at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) are also the guiding principles of the Institute’s academic training. Against the background of complex global challenges, today’s leaders have to act in contexts which require a very high degree of interrelated competences. This is why the focus of academic training at the DIE is on the transfer of expert knowledge as well as on training analytical skills in a global perspective. At the same time, the aim is to strengthen inter-personal, communication and social competencies. The training course formats offered by DIE are application-, dialogue- and solution-oriented and conform to modern didactic methods. While the international training environment promotes intercultural learning, it also leads to the creation of international and cross-sectoral networks. Since 1965, the Postgraduate Training Programme has been preparing young university graduates for challenging tasks and responsibilities in international cooperation. Additionally, in 2007, a training and dialogue course for young professionals from rising powers was added. Today, the MGG Academy is the cornerstone of Managing Global Governance (MGG), a platform for mutually-reinforcing activities in the fields of qualification, knowledge cooperation and policy dialogue. Along with this, the DIE organises further training for senior staff and leaders, as well as individually tailored workshops and seminars.
Master’s students can apply for an internship in one of DIE’s four research programmes (maximum duration 3 months). The Communications Department also offers internships for students studying for a Bachelor’s degree.
