Researcher Biodiversity Governance

DIE Research Programme "Environmental Governance and Transformation to Sustainability" is looking for a full time

Salary according to German public service tariff (TVöD Bund 14)
Gross income up to € 62.000 p.a., depending on qualifications

 

Subject to final approval of funds, the position may be filled as of 1 March 2020 and is currently limited until 31 December 2021.

 

The person will carry out research and policy advice on global biodiversity governance and especially its linkages to climate policy. The person will contribute research-based expertise in the context of the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Bejing and the development of Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework.

 

Preconditions and qualifications:

  • PhD, thesis at least submitted and Master degree with very good grades in political science, social science or economics with focus on the environment or in geography, sustainability or agricultural sciences with proven training in social sciences; completed PhD preferred;
  • Proven knowledge and research experience related to one or more of the following areas: implementation of Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Aichi Targets; Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS); IPBES global assessment on biodiversity and ecosystem services; nature-based solutions to climate change mitigation; ecosystem-based adaptation and human well-being; international biodiversity financing; biodiversity-related synergies and trade-offs in SDG implementation;
  • Relevant theoretical foundations and methodological training in global or multi-level environmental governance, institutional analysis and/or political ecology;
  • Experience in the translation of research results into policy advice; research/professional experiences in low and middle income countries;
  • Experiences in the acquisition of third-party funding projects are a welcome asset;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English; proficiency in German is highly desired; proficiency in another major international language is an asset;
  • Willingness and ability to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate (“Tropentauglichkeit”).
