For the project "Implementing the 2030 Agenda: Integrating Growth, Environment, Equality and Governance" DIE’s research programme "Transformation of Economic and Social Systems" is looking for a


Researcher (m/f/diverse)

Full time 100% (39 hours/week), Salary from € 55.000 p.a. up to € 80.000 p.a.

(German public sector tariff, up to TVöD Bund 14 depending on qualifications)

As a member of an interdisciplinary team, the candidate’s research will address the role of poverty, inequality and the principle of "leaving no one behind" in implementing the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development with a focus on the interlinkages and interdependencies between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of ending poverty (SDG 1) and reducing inequalities (SDG 10). Specifically, the candidate will explore which combinations of social and economic policies are suitable for creating synergies between these goals, and which political-institutional conditions and processes are conducive to negotiating such combinations. Applicants are to conduct research, publish, and advise the BMZ on the practical implementation of research findings.


Qualifications and requirements:

  • Master, or preferably PhD, with excellent grades in social sciences (preferably economics)
  • Proven knowledge and experience in research and/or policy advice in at least one of the following fields: social inequality, poverty causes and reduction strategies, social protection
  • Good understanding of the institutional requirements of policy making in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
  • Quantitative method skills (econometrics, modelling) are an advantage
  • Very good written and spoken English skills; Knowledge of German is an advantage
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team and good communication skills
  • Willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate („Tropentauglichkeit“)
