Doctoral Researcher (f/m/diverse) - Position No. 2021-B-03
Part time 50% (19,5 hours/week)
Salary ca. € 25.900 p.a. (German public sector tariff, TVöD Bund 13)

The doctoral researcher will carry out research and policy advice in the interdisciplinary research group "Analysing the conditions and potential co-benefits of producing green hydrogen in selected partner countries of Germany", which is DIE’s contribution to the multi-institutional project “Global H2 potential atlas - sustainable locations in the world for the green hydrogen economy of tomorrow”, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project assesses how and in which (developing) countries large-scale hydrogen generation and usage is possible based on renewable energies and without jeopardising energy and water supply of the local population. Analysing potential social and economic co-benefits of producing and using green hydrogen locally is also part of the research. The doctoral researcher will pursue a PhD thesis under the conceptual umbrella of the project and contribute to the deliverables of the project. She/he will be part of the regular institutional life at DIE.


Qualifications and requirements:

  • Master’ degree with excellent grades in one of the following areas: social sciences, including economics, political science, sociology or related fields. Graduates from engineering disciplines with ability and willingness to analyze complex social and political processes are also invited to apply;
  • proven knowledge in and experience with research methodologies in social sciences;
  • research or work experience in developing countries is an asset;
  • willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team,
  • fluent written and spoken English, good command of German and any of the UN languages is an asset;
  • willingness and aptness to travel abroad, including countries with a tropical climate („Tropentauglichkeit“).
