The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) has begun a new research project on international support for sustainable peace, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The research project “Supporting Sustainable Peace: International Support and the Role of Development Policy in the Context of Violent Conflicts” investigates external support for post-conflict countries. It aims at identifying overarching strategies (understood as the sum of means and instruments across all policy fields), which have the greatest chance to contribute to long-term stabilization and establishing sustainable peace orders in these countries.
This first project workshop was intended to discuss the content and methodological approach of the research project in a small group of experts. The Workshop looked into the current state of knowledge on long-term effects of external peace support, followed by the research design and possible data basis of the project.
