Marianne Fay, the Chief Economist of the World Bank’s Sustainable Development Network (SDN) and co-director of the World Development Report 2010 on climate change, will introduce the Network and she will give a comprehensive overview of the World Bank report “Inclusive Green Growth: The Pathway to Sustainable Development”. In the report, World Bank economists set out an economic argument and framework for countries to begin greening their growth.

Sustainable development is fundamental to the World Bank Group's mission to reduce poverty. The Sustainable Development Network was established in 2006 to help improve the quality of the World Bank’s work and strengthen professional development and knowledge sharing in and across four areas: agriculture, environment, infrastructure and social development. SDN works with policy makers, civil society, and the private sector to address climate change and encourage inclusive green growth.

Marianne Fay has held positions in different regions of the World Bank (Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa) working on infrastructure, urbanization, and more recently, adaptation to climate change. Her research has mostly focused on the role of infrastructure and urbanization in development, with a particular interest in issues related to urban poverty. She is the author of a number of articles and books on these topics. Ms Fay holds a PhD in Economics from Columbia University.
