In 2015 the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) began a research project on international support for sustainable peace, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The research project “Supporting Sustainable Peace: International Support and the Role of Development Policy in the Context of Violent Conflicts” investigates external support for post-conflict countries. It aims at identifying overarching strategies (understood as the sum of means and instruments across all policy fields), which have the greatest chance to contribute to long-term stabilization and establishing sustainable peace orders in these countries.
After fruitful discussions on the research design in the first workshop in 2015 advancements made since then were discussed. The second project workshop took place on 14 November, 2016 at the DIE in Bonn. Bringing together a small group of experts the workshop looked into the data collected for the project, tried to explain refinements of the research design and presented first results.
