The workshop was meant to intensify the co-operation and the exchange of ideas of DIE and the IPPG – Project. It focused on two major topics: State-Business Relations and Pro-Poor Growth.

The discussion revealed many linkages between the research results of both institutions. Especially it was stressed many times that pro-poor growth requires not only the right policies but also an enabling institutional framework. Likewise, there was broad agreement that deregulation and the reduction of insecurity and transaction costs in state-business relations does not automatically lead to a good investment climate. Rather, state-business relations are often dominated by informal institutions and care has to be given that these informal institutions are as transparent, efficient and non-discriminatory as possible.
