MGG Conference in New Delhi
New Delhi, 15.09.2018 until 19.09.2018
German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE)
Fulfilling its goal of contributing to transformative change at the global and domestic level, the ‘Managing Global Governance’ (MGG) programme of the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) invited partners from six emerging countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa) as well as from Germany/Europe to the MGG Conference in Andaz, New Delhi in India. The event build on a successful MGG work stream which has been instrumental in the launch of national platforms for voluntary sustainability standards. It consisted of two parts: First, the internal MGG workshop explores critical perspectives on sustainable development as well as ideas for future MGG activities. Second, the participants are invited as participants and guest speakers in various panels of the “International Convention on Sustainable Trade and Standards: Leveraging Trade, Global Value Chains, and Standards as engines of Sustainable Development”. The Convention was convened by the Quality Council of India, an autonomous body set up by India’s Ministry of Commerce & Industry in collaboration with the United Nations Forum on Sustainability Standards (UNFSS). The UNFSS is a joint initiative of five UN agencies (UNCTAD, ITC, UNIDO, FAO, and UN Environment). The Convention brought together not only representatives from these five UN agencies as well as from SAARC, ASEAN, AU, OECD, EU and WTO, but also stakeholders such as international and national policy-makers, business and industry groups, research institutions and think-tanks, standard organisations and national standard bodies.
The MGG Programme is implemented by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) with financial support from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It addresses global challenges by joint knowledge production, dialogue, research and its training programme, the “MGG Academy”.
