South-South Cooperation

Actors in the Global South are increasingly interconnected, and the MGG partner countries in particular are actively engaged in South-South cooperation to a much greater extent than before. Within the framework of the 2030 Agenda, the discussion goes well beyond debates about (so-called) "new donors", and represents a transformative agenda that also calls for a different form of partnership.

Narratives and activities in South-South cooperation are changing. The discussion includes debates about financial flows and their importance for development, whether in the form of state or private funding. In addition, new national, regional and multilateral institutions have emerged that change and shape the environment in which discussions take place. This cooperation partly goes beyond the traditional North-South groups, for example in triangular formats. In close connection with the Network of Southern Think Tanks (NeST) and other stakeholders, the DIE actively participates in these discussions. This process also creates strong linkages to the T20 Africa Standing Group.
