Is inequality bad for social cohesion? Based on theory and limited evidence from Europe and Asia, this seems the case. Also our analysis on Africa finds a negative relationship between inequality and social cohesion, but this is not strong and valid only for the horizontal aspect of social cohesion.
The discussion paper analyses opportunities and challenges of the European Union Circular Economy Action Plan (EU-CEAP) for developing and emerging countries (DECs) with a focus on the plastic packaging, electric vehicles and batteries sectors.
Social cohesion could promote sustainable economic development in a number of ways, such as facilitating financial sector development. Analysing data from more than 12,500 firms in 27 African countries, the paper shows that social cohesion improves firms' access to finance in Africa.
