The German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) publishes four independent publication series. IDOS researchers publish their current research results in Discussion Papers, Policy Briefs and Studies. Visiting scholars and cooperation partners also have the opportunity to publish their research results in one of the IDOS series. Publications from the series Analysen und Stellungnahmen, Briefing Paper and Two-Pager / Zweiseiter, which will be discontinued in 2022, will continue to be available online. The fourth publication series is for opinion pieces: The Current Column regularly comments on the latest developments and issues in international development policy.
IDOS researchers also regularly publish their research results in peer-reviewed and non-peer-reviewed German and international journals and publication series of other research institutes and institutions as well as with renowned book publishers. In addition, they use blogs and online platforms of partner institutions to communicate the Institute's research and advisory activities to an interested public.

How and to what extent can deep preferential trade agreements support upgrading of companies from developing countries within global value chains? The Transpacific Partnership and the EU-Vietnam agreement provide some new opportunities for Vietnam, but potentials will not materialize automatically.

On 28 November begins the second high-level meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) in Nairobi. When considering the future of effective development cooperation, we should start by appreciating the road it has travelled so far.
Donald Trump will become President of the USA on 20 January 2017. Even if he only implements part of what he has announced, a political earthquake will be unleashed. This will radically change the conditions the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Climate Agreement. Efforts to organize global cooperation need to be massively expanded: the EU needs to strengthen its international profile, and it needs a 100-day programme outlining its priorities. The German G20 Presidency can help to strengthen climate protection and the 2030 Agenda. These are the foundations upon which the transatlantic partnership as well as dialogue between societies must move forward.

The EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) demonstrates concerning trends in Europe’s response to migration and the future direction of its development policy. It also offers an interesting opportunity to do things differently.
The EU Trust Fund for Africa was launched one year ago, accompanied by high aspirations and deep concerns. This paper examines the implementation and potential impact of the fund, how it relates to broader EU agendas, and what it may indicate about the future direction of EU development policy.
