Assessing and Reviewing INDCs: Roundtable on ways to differentiate methods, scopes and processes

The roundtable had two main aims:
First, it aimed to identify how the assessment and review (A&R) of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) can be organised. This relates mostly to the kind of information that INDCs must include, the criteria for A&R, and which actors to involve. Options had been presented by a consortium of research institutions (SEI/CICERO/DIE) currently undertaking a project on the topic for the Nordic Working Group for Global Climate Negotiations (NOAK).
Second, the roundtable aimed to identify whether and how the A&R process could be differentiated, given the huge variety in countries’ circumstances and capacities, levels of development, greenhouse gas emission profiles, etc. Although INDCs are to be submitted by all Parties, this does not necessarily mean that all countries’ INDCs follow the same method, scope and process, or that they are all assessed and reviewed in the same way.
