HLPF Side Event
New York, 11.07.2018 bis 13.07.2018
German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE), United Nations System Staff College Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development (UNSSC)
With a particular focus on SDG 17 and its target 9, the side event of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development will explore new approaches to building the capacity of civil servants to act in collaborative partnership with diverse stakeholders in the context of the 2030 Agenda. Based on good practices and evidence from diverse countries, participants will have an opportunity to provide feedback and develop recommendations concerning capacity-building curricula for public servants. The policy dialogue brings together experts from six schools of public administration in the MGG partner countries Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa. Representatives from Member States, civil society, academia and the private sector will also share insights from their research on and experiences with multi-stakeholder partnerships.
The event is jointly hosted by the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) and the United Nations System Staff College Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development (UNSSC). It is a follow-up activity of the Managing Global Governance workshop "Capacity-Building for the 2030 Agenda" which took place in Brasilia from 26 February to 1 March 2018. The side event on 11 July will be followed by an internal workshop on 12 and 13 July. The workshop serves the purpose to develop a roadmap for further MGG activities on capacity building of the public sector for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. In this context, the participants will start designing a joint pilot course for civil servants in a multi-stakeholder environment.
The side event is part of the workshop series on SDGs Learning, Training & Practice, organized during the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York from 9 July to 18 July. The workshop series aims to advance capacity building, knowledge acquisition and networking, and features speakers and experts from academia and other sectors on crucial topics related to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
