Announcement: Short-Term Visiting Researcher

The German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) is one of the leading research institutes on development policy. Through excellent research, policy advice and training, the Institute contributes to finding solutions to global challenges.

The Research Programme “Inter- and Transnational Cooperation” at the German Development Institute / Deutsches Institut für Entwicklungspolitik (DIE) offers a possibility for short-term visiting scholar positions of 4-12 weeks between June and December 2020, depending on how the situation with the Corona virus evolves. The position offers the opportunity to work on original research that aligns with the main areas of research of the cluster “transnational cooperation”.

Interested persons from all countries can apply, including PhD students who are in the writing phase of their doctoral work. Stays are expected to be at minimum four weeks long.

Visiting Researchers will be expected to present their research to DIE academic staff during their stay, and could have the opportunity to (co-)author work in one of DIE publication formats. Applicants should highlight in their application on which topic they would be interested to focus on during their stay at DIE.

We would welcome in particular work on contributions of transnational cooperation to sustainable development and the global common good. During their fellowship, the guest researcher could investigate transnational cooperation of the private sector, civil society, political parties, cities or knowledge communities, among others. Research that provides theoretical and conceptual perspectives on the contribution of transnational cooperation for sustainable development and the global common good would be particularly welcome.

Interested researchers should include in their letters:

  1. Letter of motivation explaining why DIE and the Programme on Inter- and Transnational Cooperation would be a good fit for their work (1 page)
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. A copy of a recent publication or working paper
  4. A proposed schedule of what they will do while in Bonn, and a brief description of expected outputs (1-2 pages maximum).
  5. Options for two time periods for the research stay.

Guest researchers who require a visa will be provided with a letter of support if invited.
Guest researchers will receive an honorarium, which is calculated based on the number of days they are in residence. The daily rate will be determined based on experience.

Please submit required materials electronically to Christiane.Weller@die-gdi.de. All materials should be included as attachments in a single email with the title line “Short-term guest researcher, FULL NAME”. The deadline is 29 March 2020. A response on whether we can offer a short-term visiting scholar position will be given mid-April.
